Koss PortaPro Headphones with Case Review

Koss actually introduced the PortaPro headphone line back in 1984 and they’ve since become a sort of standard when it comes to cheap headphones that sound great and are comfortable.

With over 900 reviews on Amazon contributing to a solid 4.5 star rating we thought that they were definitely worth taking a closer look at. We also really liked the fact that out of 900+ reviews there were only 20 one star ratings!

Overall people seem very impressed with these headphones and the fact that they include a case at this price is very nice indeed.

The Negative Reviews

As always here at website.com we like to look at the negatives first. Not that we’re pessimistic – just realistic ;)

The negatives in this case are hard to nail down into one recurring theme. Mainly people feel that the quality has declined since the original Portapros were released back in 1984. We can definitely believe this as it seems that quality in general (ESPECIALLY IN ELECTRONICS) has declined over the past 20 odd years.

A lot of negative reviewers also mentioned that the sound is still great but the headphones feel cheaper somehow.

Most of the 20 odd negative reviewers were previous Portapro owners who had once sung Koss’s praises but now are not so happy with their work – definitely too bad and doesn’t speak well about Koss quality control.

The Positive Reviews

The overwhelming majority of reviews for the Koss Portapro headphones are very positive indeed.

Aside from many reviewers noting how ugly these things are almost everyone swears by these headphones. Many users have purchased multiple units over the course of 20 years and they have almost something of a “cult status” among their users

The Portapros are designed to fold up easily (hence the name) and this is definitely one of the most well liked features of these headphones aside from the great sound. People use them from jogging to long airline flights and all have very good things to say.

Comfort was also a major theme in the over 600 positive reviews for these headphones, many users reported wearing glasses which caused ear pain after using other headphones for extended periods of time and this was not the case when using the Portapros.

The Conclusion

Would we recommend the Koss PortaPro Headphones?

Absolutely and here’s why:

While it may be true that the overall construction has suffered slightly since 1984 almost everyone (even negative reviewers) report that these headphones still sound great.

Combine this with comfort, a case, portability and Koss’s outstanding lifetime replacement guarantee and you’ve really got a product that you can feel comfortable using and abusing!
